In the predawn cold of 30 May 2010 nearly 20,000 runners from around South Africa and abroad gathered in front of the famous Pietermaritzburg City Hall to await the start of the 85th Comrades Marathon. There was a strong contingent of Breakthru athletes in the field, ranging from novices to experienced veterans of the 89km challenge. Some couldn't wait to start, some couldn't wait to finish, and a few were heard to question their own sanity for taking on a distance that "sane" people think twice about driving, but the contagious atmosphere at the start soon had everyone caught up in the amazing spririt for which the Comrades is legendary in running circles. 

After a chilly start the day delivered good conditions that enabled the runners to take on the course with confidence. 69 Breakthru runners completed the distance, 67 of them within the 12 hour time limit. The club was able to achieve 2 silver medals (congratulations to Matthew Hlela and Oupa Baloyi) as well as 7 Bill Rowan medals, 33 Bronze, and 25 Vic Clapham. A special congratulation must go out to the club's 23 Novice runners who successfully completed the race (No matter what you said at the finish, you'll probably be back!)

This year's successful finishers now boast a total of 320 medals between them - This certainly bears out the club's reputation as a "Comrades Club"This year's
